چکیده

This paper presents a methodology to simulate the strain-softening-hardening response of sensitive clays when subjected extensive remoulding. A non-local strain-softening technique is implemented into Abaqus Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software through its user defined material subroutine UMAT, in form critical state based constitutive model. For comparison conventional and formulations, series analyses have been performed investigating mesh dependency issues validity simple softening-scaling rule for practical applications. The model significantly reduces solution mesh-dependency small-strain biaxial shear updated Lagrangian buried pipe uplift. Finally, applied undrained cycles penetration consolidated-undrained capacity T-bar kaolin clay. analysis highlights limitations use standard element tests (e.g. triaxial tests) calibrate input parameters that control aspect law, need law captures partial recovery sensitivity during consolidation.

Modelling the mechanical behaviour of expansive clays

A simple formalism is presented to model the behaviour of expansive clays. Two levels of structure are considered. The behaviour of the macrostructure follows the model developed for unsaturated materials by Alonso et al. [Géotechnique 40 (3) (1990) 405–430]. The behaviour of the microstructure is adapted from the work of Gens and Alonso [Can. Geotech. J. 29 (1992) 1013–1032] in order to includ...

Large Amplitude Vibration of Imperfect Shear Deformable Nano-Plates Using Non-local Theory

In this study, based on nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen, the first order shear deformation theory of plates (FSDT) is reformulated for vibration of nano-plates considering the initial geometric imperfection. The dynamic analog of the von Kármán nonlinear strain-displacement relations is used to derive equations of motion for the nano-plate. When dealing with nonlineariti...

Regularisation of non - local actions in two - dimensional field theories

Taking the induced action for gauge fields coupled to affine currents as an example, we show how loop calculations in non-local two-dimensional field theories can be regulated. Our regularisation method for one loop is based on the method of Pauli and Villars. We use it to calculate the renormalisation factors for the corresponding effective actions, clearing up some discrepancies in the litera...

Distinct element modelling of the mechanical behaviour of intact rocks using voronoi tessellation model

This paper aims to study the mechanical behaviour and failure mechanism of intact rocks under different loading conditions using the grain based model implemented in the universal distinct element code (UDEC). The grain based numerical model is a powerful tool to investigate complicated micro-structural mechanical behaviour of rocks. In the UDEC grain based model, the intact material is simulat...

assessment of the efficiency of s.p.g.c refineries using network dea

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...
